Elections

The Office of the City Clerk serves as the Supervisor of City Election. City of Miami Gardens General Elections are held on every even-numbered year, on the day of the State Primary Election. A runoff election, if necessary, is held on the day of the State General Election.

The Mayor and each Council Member are elected to four-year terms. The Mayor and two Council Members are elected at-large and four Council Members are elected by Residential Area. Candidates for municipal office must file the appropriate forms with the City Clerk prior to opening campaign account and to qualify for office. Elections are conducted in accordance with the provisions of the City’s Code of Ordinances and Florida Statutes.

Upcoming Election

Pursuant to the City of Miami Gardens Charter and Code of Ordinance, a General Election will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, for the purpose of electing a Council Member for Residential Area 2, Residential Area 4, and At-Large Seat 6 for a four-year term. 

Qualifying Period

The qualifying period for the election shall open Monday, April 13, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., and close precisely at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.  Candidates shall qualify at the Office of the City Clerk, 18605 N.W. 27th Avenue, Suite 317, Miami Gardens, Florida 33056.

Candidate Campaign Reports

Pursuant to Section 2-480 of the Miami Gardens Code of Ordinance, Candidates for the Office of Mayor or City Council and any other entity required to file campaign reports pursuant to Florida Statutes 106.07(2)(a)(2) shall file their campaign treasure’s report electronically with the City Clerk.
