Operations Division
About
The Operations Division serves as the front-line, uniformed first responder arm of the Miami Gardens Police Department. It is composed of two core units: Patrol and Canine (K-9). These dedicated teams are the most visible components of our department, delivering essential public safety services across the City of Miami Gardens.
The Patrol Unit is the largest and most active section within the division. Officers respond to a wide range of emergency and non-emergency calls, conduct preliminary investigations, provide high-visibility patrol, and serve as the primary liaison between the department and the community. Our officers are committed to a Community Oriented Policing philosophy, ensuring daily interactions are rooted in service, trust, and partnership with our residents.
The Canine Unit supports patrol operations with specially trained K-9 teams that assist in locating suspects, searching for narcotics or explosives, and conducting building and area searches. Their specialized capabilities enhance officer safety and increase the effectiveness of law enforcement responses.
Operating 24/7, the division responds to over 75,000 calls for service annually. It is structured around four 12-hour shifts, each led by a Captain and supported by three squads under the supervision of Sergeants. Officers are strategically assigned to one of three geographic zones within the City’s 20+ square miles, which includes major venues such as Hard Rock Stadium, Calder Casino, and two university campuses—Florida Memorial University and St. Thomas University.
The Operations Division remains committed to delivering professional, compassionate, and proactive policing to the residents who call Miami Gardens home.
