Operations Division Captain

Captain James Hughes is a 31-year veteran of Law Enforcement. He is currently assigned as a shift Commander in the Operations Division for the Miami Gardens Police Department. He was responsible for coordinating and implementing the Community Enrichment Team and the Nuisance Abatement Program for the City of Miami Gardens Police Department. He joined the City of Miami Gardens on August 7, 2007, and was one of the first seven Captains hired to assist with the implementation of the Miami Gardens Police Department.

Captain James Hughes served as a Petty Officer in the Unites States Navy for six years, prior to joining the Quincy Police Department in 1987. During his tenure with QPD, he served as a GIU Detective, GIU Sergeant, Operations Lieutenant and Captain. In 2006, he served as the Assistant Director of Emergency Management Operations for Gadsden County.

Captain James Hughes holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice (Magna Cum Laude) from Springfield College in Springfield, MA. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Florida Department of Law Enforcement Chief Executive Program, and has completed numerous career service courses.

Captain James Hughes is a G.R.E.A.T. / D.A.R.E. certified instructor and has taught Gang Resistance Courses in the local middle school and Drug Resistance Courses in the elementary schools of Quincy. He has been married to his wife for 33 years and they have two children.
